Quartzstar had a difficult childhood. When she was only 4 moons old, the Shadows first rose up and defeated her clan. Her parents, terrified for her life, sent her away from the territory with her friend, Jasper. They weren't there when the entire clan was fighting. All that they know is that, when they returned a moon later, everyone was gone and bones littered the forest.

They both knew that the former Whispering Woods was gone, they knew that they had lost. So, trying to cheer the two of them up, Quartz gathered every last bit and piece of the remaining materials and built a new camp. They taught themselves how to hunt, and began trying to survive from day 1. 

​

Not even two moons had passed before two other cats, named Storm and Bat wanted to join. They were both younger than Quartz and Jasper, being around 3 moons, when they stumbled upon the pair.

​

Quartz was not very happy with letting the two join, with the kits not knowing anything about hunting and no survival experience. However, Jasper convinced the she-cat to let them stay.

​

They trained the kits for many moons, eventually developing new clan traditions and hierarchy. Quartz, despite being so young, became Quartzstar. The four of them scouted out a cave, fileld with shiny gemstones and a pool of glittering water. 

​

Quartzstar and Jasper remembered hearing the elders talk about a place similar to this. It was where leaders got their nine lives and where medicine cats went on half-moons. It was where apprentices listed to the stars.

​

But, the stars did not listen. They were gone, just like the former Whispering Woods. Without them, guidance was limited to a cats heart and head. 

​

Quartzstar was devastated. Both by not being able to speak with the Stars and the fact that she still was vulnerable to one life. 

​

When everyone returned, Quartzstar declared that only they will know she is limited to one life. She also announced that her friend and ally, Jasper, would become deputy.
